Our Approach

Our base theoretical orientation is derived from relational/cultural theory and psychotherapy. We believe that a central human necessity is the establishment of authentic mutual connection in relationship. Disconnection in relationships can cause a person difficulty in their lives. Some goals of counseling are to help individuals develop an understanding of themselves so that they are better able to experience psychological well being through growth fostering relationships; and to help individuals feel more empowered in their world. We believe that the counseling relationship is a collaborative and equal relationship in which we can work together on any goals or issues you would like to work on in session.
Each client is unique and we tailor our approach to best meet the individual needs of clients and their families. We are process-oriented counselors that incorporate techniques that are cognitive-behavioral and experiential to facilitate healing and growth for individuals and families.

Some clients need only a few counseling sessions to achieve their goals; others may require months or even years of counseling. As a client, you are in complete control and may end our counseling relationship at any time, though we ask that you participate in a termination session.
You also have the right to refuse or negotiate modification of any of our suggestions that you believe might be harmful. At any time, either you or we may initiate discussion of possible positive or negative effects of entering or not entering counseling, continuing or not continuing counseling, and/or using certain techniques.
